Red Polka Dot

This Red Polka Dot dress is my daughter favourite. It is made of cotton material. The pattern comprises of rose bullion embroidery and double cable stitch.The cable stitch is a firm strait stitch and is one of the most basic and widely used stitches in smocking.

Gathering Rosebuds Pattern

This Gathering Rosebuds Pattern is designed by Margaret Herzfeld of Western Australia. It is published in the Smocking & Embroidery Magazine Issue No 29 , 1994. The pattern covers from the shoulder to the waist with rosebuds embroidered on the smocking . To do this the material need to be pleated  24 full space rows with no holding rows.

The Red Dress

One of my "experimental pattern". I loved the outcome . The contrast of the red materials , the treads for the smocking and the embroidery as well as the color for the small ribbons. 

Embroidery On The Collar

The embroidery on the collar is to "spice up" the pattern. Comprised of the  bullion roses sewed like a plant , complete with leaves and stem.

Bullion Roses

The Bullion Roses is made of of two shades of pink . It is surrounded by leaves border made of two shades of green. The inner petals of 2 bullion knots , 8 wraps whereas the outer petals are 5 bullion knots, 15 wraps.

These bullion roses make the perfect finishing touch and add interest to the back dress. In order to do this, you would have to use a larger button and two strands of treads.

Tea Party

The original The Tea Party Pattern is designed by Susan Keleher of Tasmania. It is published in the Smocking Magazine issue No 48, 1999.For this dress , I have made some adjustment to this pattern as I wanted it to be a little bit longer. The original version of the pattern is half of what is shown in the picture.

Blue Bird Pattern

This is among my favourite pattern. The Blue Bird Pattern is designed by Cecily Davey of South Australia. It is published in Smocking Magazines , issue No 49 , 1999. It is indeed beautiful because of lots of embroidery .Not that easy to do , but  it is worth a try.

My First Smocking Dress

This is of a very a sentimental value to me .This is my first smocking piece . I made this during the lesson that I took . It eventually end up as the front piece for my daughter's dress. As I have just started , it took me several days to do , but it is indeed an exhilarating experience when I managed to complete it.

Smocking Pleater

Got this smocking pleater as a present from my husband in year 2000. It is of Amanda -Jane brand , made in Australia. It has 24 row pleater with 47 half spaces. It is easy to use as it comes complete with instructions. Extra care must be taken especially handling the needles as it breaks easily if not fitted properly.
